Attention 5th Grade Students and Parents! The Roswell Youth Day Parade on Oct. 9th is rapidly approaching! We will have an organizational meeting in the MPE Media Center on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 6 pm. All are welcome to attend even if you did not sign up at Open House. The theme of the parade this year is “To Youth & Beyond”. After much discussion and a lot of drawings we came up with a space rocket design. It should be a simple, great-looking float to build. Please bring any other ideas to the meeting. Remember this is a program honoring our youth.
If you cannot make the meeting here are some opportunities to help:
• Supplies – 2 x 4’s, plywood, screws, nails, chicken wire, paint supplies, tarps
• Parent volunteers (2 each session) to check in/out kids on work days
• Parent volunteers to work with groups of kids to keep them on task
• Parent to be in charge of candy to be tossed at the parade
• Parent(s) to be in charge of the final work day PARTY (refreshments, music, etc)
• Parent to be in charge of drawing for float riders
• Parent to be in charge of fundraising (either monetary or supplies) – our budget is limited!
• Truck with trailer hitch for the parade.
We will finalize the design and review the construction schedule at the meeting. We have scheduled work sessions for Sunday afternoons to avoid as many conflicts as possible. No one has to attend all of the sessions. The first date for initial construction will be Sunday, Sept. 12th at the Mimms’. They have kindly allowed us to use their barn again this year. We have a trailer but as noted above will need a truck to pull the float in the parade.
You can email me at mpe5thgradefloat@gmail.com.
Come be a part of the fun!
