Photo: Susan FletcherThe intial construction of the float and trailer went great on Sunday. Many thanks to Ward Stetson, Bob Quinn, Dave Van Asselberg, Paul Zeigler, Joe Petramale and Bernie Magoon for their great work in the hot sun! Doesn't the rocket base look great? (Thanks to Susan Fletcher our official float photographer!) Its going to be a big and sturdy rocket (it may even launch!)
There is still much to do and we need to see you, parents and 5th graders, this Sunday from 2-5 pm at the Mimms Farm, 1225 Jones Road! We are going to have an initial design discussion with the kids for ideas on how to decorate the rocket and the float. I need at least 2 parents to sign the kids in and out. I also will need a few "team" leaders to assist the kids and to keep them focused and on task. Please bring work/gardening gloves for you and your kids, if you have them, as some will be stapling chicken wire which has very pointy edges. We will also have some painting to do so don't wear anything that might get paint on it! And we will start putting the pomps (otherwise know as tissue paper) in the chicken wire.
There will still be power tools in use as construction on the rocket frame continues so safety must be our first concern! Also, please remind your child to be on their best behavior as the Mimms are being very generous in letting us use their property to build the float.
No one is required to be there the entire time. Any involvement is appreciated.
We are already pushing the budget so I need some ideas and/or volunteers to help with fundraising. Please advise. Thanks all.
